Eventide

The site-specific performance Eventide presents a rite of passage with a series of dreamlike scenes at different locations within the Nunhead Cemetery. The characters transgress from the realm of the living to the dead as the angel guides them to rest. The narrative was inspired by historical figures and elements from Victorian times. The title Eventide comes from the often-seen epitaph: “We shall rest at eventide”, which provides the time of the day that our performance takes place. The guided tour begins on the east-crescent path of the cemetery and ends at the Anglican chapel. Like the characters in the narrative, the audience is also conducted through a journey.
