These, like threads, intertwine and pull at our sense of ‘home’. Unravelling.mov is an evolving project that blends performance, scenography, andcommunity engagement to explore the concept of "home." A collective-crocheted blanketserves as both a prop and a metaphor, under which participants and performers enact subtle, dreamlike movements, evoking the gentle breathing and shifting of sleep—symbolizing safety, comfort, and intimacy. Inspired by personal experiences of migration and diaspora, theparticipatory performance integrates crochet and weaving, with the act of creating andunravelling the blanket becoming part of the narrative. This captivating exploration of identity and representation challenges audiences to confront their perceptions and the power dynamics inherent in the act of looking.Originally devised as part of the Goldsmiths MA Performance Making degree shows 2023, the piece has been developed in festivals and exhibitions, including ‘Violent Divinity’ at Luckypot, Peckham Fringe Hatch &amp; Scratch 2024, Soho Theatre Drag &amp; Cabaret Lab 2024, and Camden Fringe 2024. The title Eventide comes from the often-seen epitaph: “We shall rest at eventide”, which provides the time of the day that our performance takes place. The guided tour begins on the east-crescent path of the cemetery and ends at the Anglican chapel. I took over this lightbox for several days, tried to use fonts, shapes, materials, and performances to share some thoughts with the passer-byers.
